About This Episode
On today’s episode of the Tuesday People Podcast, we tip our hats to caregivers everywhere. Host Mitch Albom shares the speech he gave at the celebration of life for his good friend, Augie Nieto, and pays tribute to Augie’s wife, Lynne, who was a partner in Augie’s care for the last 18 years of his life as he battled ALS. We hear Morrie’s thoughts on being cared for in his final days, and discuss the importance of self-care for those who dedicate their lives to helping others they love. To all of the caregivers out there, we salute you.
The speech you gave over the weekend was nice for Augie. You always know what to say right away. When I was taking care of my husband I needed to get away and for me just an 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours did it, as long as I went to the beach. Amazing what healing powers water has. I did that a few times a week and then felt so refreshed to carry on. I feel bad that I never completed nursing program. I am sure I was one sometime in a previous life. (ha), I did what I could and never thought I was cheated in any way. You just have to deal with what comes along.
I donated what I could to Augies Quest and also the garden for the kids at the orphanage.
