It was a night to remember at the City Theatre in Detroit, when Mitch Albom’s “Ernie” re-opened to great success. Albom’s tribute to Ernie Harwell, Detroit’s “Voice of Summer,” first opened in April 2011 and has returned for its second season, running until July.
The evening began with a VIP reception inside the Hockeytown Cafe. Directed by Tony Caselli and starring TJ Corbett and Will Young, Ernie played to a sold-out audience, which included Lula Harwell, Ernie’s widow; Paul Carey, Ernie’s longtime Tigers’ broadcasting partner; and Jim Price, former Tigers’ catcher and current Detroit Tigers Radio Network commentator. The evening ended in a standing ovation!
“Ernie” is scheduled to run at the City Theatre through July 29, 2012. Tickets may be purchased here.
