The Frederik Meijer Gardens Grand Room was home to a one-of-a-kind charity event last night, where Tony Bennett and host Mitch drew more than 400 people in concert and conversation to benefit the Have Faith Haiti Mission & Orphanage. Mitch shared updates about his work in Port-au-Prince, and then interviewed Tony before the latter sang some of his beloved hits, including “The Way You Look Tonight” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”
Bennett shared memories of old friends like Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, and insights into new collaborators like Lady Gaga, whom he proclaimed was “the Picasso of pop music.” Proclaiming Jimmy Durante the greatest performer he’d ever seen, he also revealed that it was his friend Cary Grant who steered him away from attempting a movie career. He continued to share memories and insights during his 14-song, 45-minute set.
Thank you to all who helped make this event a success. If you’d like to learn more about or contribute to Have Faith Haiti, please visit www.havefaithhaiti.org.
