About This Episode
Welcome to “The Parentless Club.” That’s the topic of today’s episode of the Tuesday People podcast. Host Mitch Albom, and producer, Lisa Goich, discuss what happens when the strings to both your parents are cut for the last time. Who do you turn to when you have questions? Who is the keeper of the family history now that both parents are gone? We’ll discuss all of the hurdles you’ll face – and how you can conquer them – as you navigate your new world on your own.
I have been in the parentless club for probably like 24 years now. My Dad has been gone like 43 years and my Ma has been gone now for about 24 years. I had to be the grown up when I was 12 years old and help my Mother all the time make my own clothes, and then later on take care of my Dad when I was 18 years old and then my Mother when I was in my late 30’s.. Despite things it is good to hang onto family. So true how when some die the family falls apart. I try to keep them interested in having gatherings. So many are getting older and not able to do certain things anymore,so I have done the planning for quite a few years now. I think over 7 years since my husband died. It has been fun. While growing up I was never aware of what some of the relatives died of. It wasn’t until i had certain surgeries I was then told well so and so died of that or did you know that so and so had that too. Stay positive Mitch if you are so worried about what your parents died of because you could actually get something that your Grandparents had or a generation before them. I have glaucoma . My Grandmother had that and no one else has ever gotten it. Someone in previous generations may of gotten it. I do not worry about what my parents had no one is doomed to get what they had. You could get something else. Just think positive.
