  • How do I register?

You will find the Login / Register button on every page of the website. Simply click "Register" and complete the required information.

  • What parts of the website require registration?

We require registration on MitchAlbom.com to: view articles in the Archive that are more than one month old; to use any of the message boards (in the Discussion section); to sign-up a reading group or service organization; and to post a service event or Teachers Share comment.
 
Registration is free.
 

  • How and when does MitchAlbom.com use my personal information?

The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use that govern MitchAlbom.com appear in a link at the bottom of every page on the website. We urge you to read both documents and to the check back periodically to see updates. 
 

  • What is “My Stuff”?

"My Stuff" contains your account information and preferences, as well as a catalog of any content you submit to the site (reading group profile, service organization or event, classroom story in Teacher's Corner, and newsletter subscription preferences). You will find "My Stuff" at the top right of the screen on each page. You must be registered and logged-in in order to access "My Stuff."
 

  • How do I subscribe or unsubscribe to a mailing list?

Message boards
 

  • How do I find topics on the message board?

Our message boards are divided first into broad Categories -- Mitch's Works, Journalism & Sports, Radio & Music (& Entertainment), and Service– and within each Category there are Forums on different subjects, such as "Mitch's Picks" in Film. Within each Forum there are topics, or discussions, on more specific subjects like "What are your favorite movie lines?"
 

  • How do I start a new topic?

When in a forum, click on the "New Topic" button to start a new topic. You must be a registered user to start a new topic or post to the message board.
 

  • How do I respond to a post already in a topic?

When in a topic thread, click on the "reply to this post" directly below the particular post to respond to that post. You must be a registered user to start a new topic or post to the message board.  If you want to post your take on a topic without responding to another user's specific comments, click the "post reply" button in the topic thread. 

  •  How do I edit or delete my post?

After submitting your post, click "view your submitted message." You can also access your post by entering the topic thread in which you posted. At the top right of your post, you will see "edit" or  "x" (to delete) .
 

  •  Why can't I create a new forum?

Only site administrators can create forums.

 
Search the archive

 

  • What is available in the archive?

When MitchAlbom.com launched (in March 2009) the archive of the Journalism & Sports section contained more than 4,200 columns and articles that Mitch has written for the Detroit Free Press since 1985. It also contains Mitch's other journalism, such as his articles for Parade Magazine and Sports Illustrated.  MitchAlbom.com posts Mitch's new articles as they appear on the Detroit Free Press website -- www.Freep.com -- so the archive continues to grow every week. 

  • How do I search for articles?

On the Journalism & Sports home page you will find a "Search the Archive" box, where you can begin your initial search for an article by keyword. 
 

  • How can I refine my search?

On your search results page there is a "Refine your search" block to the right of the article results. Advanced search options (see "Refine Your Search") enable searching by date, publication, and section.

  • How can I search the entire website for specific information? 

A site-wide "search" box  appears on each page of the website in the upper right hand corner.  Enter your keywords to search the entire site for specific content. 
 
 
Service
 

  • What is available in the “Give Back to Your Community” directory?

"Give Back to Your Community" is a national directory of service and volunteer organizations and events.  You can type in a zip code to find events in your local community, and you may also search the directory by keyword.

  • How do I sign up my service or volunteer organization?

From the "List Your Service Opportunity" box, you can sign-up your volunteer organization. Please note that you must be registered in order to submit a listing.

  • How do I post my service or volunteer event?

From the "List Your Service Opportunity" box, you can post your volunteer event. Please note that you must be registered in order to submit a listing. You must also sign up your organization before you can list an event.

  • How do I delete my service or volunteer organization or event?

All of your events and information about your service organization can be found by clicking on the "MyStuff" link in the top right-hand corner of every page on the website. You must be registered and logged-in to view your personal information.

  • How do I search for volunteer opportunities in my community?

To search for volunteer events in your community go the Service home page and type your zip code in the "Give Back To Your Community" directory.

  • How do I know if a service opportunity listing is valid?

Please note that due to the open-sharing nature of the user-generated content posted in our service section, the management of MitchAlbom.com is not able to continually monitor all user posts. We will do our best to review the accuracy of content provided by users and reserve the right to remove any posts and/or ban access by violating users that we find do not comply with our Terms of Use.   
 

  • How do I report someone who is posting offensive or false information?

In every discussion thread there is an icon -- a triangle with an exclamation point inside  -- that,when clicked-on, will take you to a form you may use to report abuse on MitchAlbom.com.  You can also report abuse by users here.  Thank you for helping to protect our community.

To sign up your reading group or book club go here. Please check that another member of your group has not already built a profile for your group.  Note that you must be registered to sign up a reading group.

Teacher's Corner is your resource for educator guides for each of Mitch's books. You will also find classroom stories shared by other teachers like you.

  • How do I share my experience teaching one of Mitch’s books in my class?

To submit a classroom story, use this form.

  • How do I edit or delete my posting to "Teachers Share"?

  • My group is performing one of Mitch’s plays. How do I post information about our production on the calendar?

You can submit information about your production to the production calendar using this form.
 

  • How do I edit/delete my listing in the production calendar?

To edit or delete your production listing , go to "My Stuff." You will find "My Stuff" at the very top of each page in the far right corner. You must be registered and logged-in to access "My Stuff." On your "My Stuff" page, click on "View and edit my productions" under "Theater Productions."

 
 
Mitch on the Radio
 

  • When is Mitch on the radio show?

Mitch hosts "The Mitch Albom Show" live on WJR-Radio in Detroit (www.wjr.com) weekdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (EST).  On Mondays he does an extra hour of sports, from 7 – 8 p.m. (EST), on "Monday Sports Albom."

  • How can I listen to Mitch on the air?

To live-stream Mitch’s radio show, click the "Listen Now" button on the Radio & Music page (link). WJR’s player should appear. If it doesn't, you may need to adjust your browser’s pop-up blocker settings in order to access the player.

  • How do I download the podcast for Mitch’s radio show?

In order to download the podcast of "The Mitch Albom Show" you must have iTunes software installed on your computer. Go here to download the software for either a Mac or a PC: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
 
When you click the "Download the podcast" button on the Radio & Music home page your iTunes software should open and you will be able to complete the steps.

  • How do I contact Mitch on the air?

You can contact Mitch on the air through the message board. On the Radio & Music home page, you will find the button to "Send Mitch a Message on Air," which links to the message board topic, "Hey Mitch, I've got a question for you." You must be a registered user in order to post to the message board.

There are detailed F.A.Q.'s about Mitch and his work in the Bio section, and they are clearly identified in the site's navigation.

Foreign Languages
 

  • What content appears in foreign languages on MitchAlbom.com?

We have translated a number of articles and book excerpts into six foreign languages: French, German, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. All the existing translations can be found here. Whenever you see the flags from those countries it means that translated content is available. We will continue to add new material to this section.

  • How do I contact Mitch?

Mitch does not have a public email address. We encourage you to post your messages to Mitch and fellow subscribers on the DISCUSSION board. Mitch cannot read all of them, and not every day, but he would love to hear from you. If you're a teacher, please post your special stories about teaching one of Mitch's books in the dedicated Teacher's Corner.  If you're a reading group, tell us about your group here. If you're a student, please read the letter from a young fan like you here.
